Two weeks ago, Galila Tekle Wubbe, a member of our lab team, shared her migration story with a group of scholars from the Scholion–Mandel Program at the Hebrew University, as part of a tour focused on migration.
During the meeting, an important insight emerged: each person has their own “migration ripples” – echoes of movement, transition, and change, even when these experiences are not explicitly labeled as “immigration.” Family histories of migration are complex and diverse, varying across individuals and communities depending on resilience, support, and the ability to create a new sense of home.
The discussion that followed highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces for learning, sharing, and exploring lived experiences, as well as examining not only the familiar narrative but also the deeper layers that shape it.
We thank Galila for her openness and for her contribution to fostering a thoughtful and meaningful dialogue around migration and identity.
